Silence Is a Decision: Showing Up When It’s Slow

When the market is hot, most agents post constantly. A new listing, another closing, another record quarter, a bigger team. When the market slows, they go quiet. They stop posting. They stop showing up.

In this episode, I’m not telling you to post more. I’m making the case that going quiet sends a message of its own, and that your community is already reading it.

Silence is a decision. Intended or not. Remembered either way.

  • Disappearing when business is slow is the single most avoidable reason referrals dry up 90 days later. That’s exactly when you’ll need the business most.

  • How you show up teaches people what to expect from you. If you vanish when things are hard for you, why would anyone trust you to stay when things are hard for them?

  • You talk for a living. You know what to say. The real fear isn’t having nothing to say. It’s being judged for saying something that isn’t another record-breaking deal.

  • More real estate content won’t set you apart. Anyone can look up the market data. What makes you stand out is finding something honest to say, even if it’s “it’s hard out there right now.”

  • The aspirational era of content is over. People crave human, and AI is only making that craving stronger.

  • You build a brand the way you build a relationship: every day, in small and genuine moments. It doesn’t take three posts a day. It takes one real one, meant to serve rather than to sell.

  • The question this episode is really asking: What is your silence teaching people to expect from you?
